I am somewhat biased when it comes to HP Printers, although obviously I'm a Canon fan as well. My first printer was an HP, well before digital cameras and photo printers.
It worked well for a great many years, and I'll admit I worked briefly for HP about 20 years ago, although nothing having to do with their printer division. Of course I will only recommend models, HP, Canon, Epson, or others, based on their merits!
HP makes a lot of different photo printers. They all seem to be quite good, but some are obviously better than others, and not all of them are great values. Sometimes other brands have strong competitive offerings, especially in the smaller and portable photo printer area.
I think HP excels in higher end printer machines, but they make some very good and less pricy consumer grade printers as well.
The HP A646 Compact Photo Printer
is around $100 with discount as of this writing, and is the new and improved
version of the A636 which we previously recommended. It is a great
little compact printer designed to print a few pictures, not an entire photo
album. It uses USB connectivity, has built in Bluetooth wireless which is
great for printing directly from cellphone cameras among others.
You can also print directly from memory cards, USB
thumb drives, and cameras with PictBridge. The picture quality is wonderful
and some users report it's much better than other printers in the same price
range in side by side tests. However ink is
quite expensive and you need to buy some pronto - the included ink cartridge
has almost none in it, just a few pictures worth.
And in the home to medium office space, the
HP Officejet Pro 8500 Wireless All-In-One Printer
is a workhorse all-in-one device that prints, faxes, and scans. It does everything well.
It has very very fast printing, multiple networking options including WiFi and functioning as a network printer, and a touch screen. It has a high duty cycle, designed for printing up to fifteen thousand pages a month.
No one would buy this just for printing photos, although it
does a great job on
photos and more. It lists in the slightly under $500 range, but Click Here
for an enormous discount (over 50% as of this writing).
HP Officejet Pro 8500 is not perfect, nothing is, but it is a quality workhorse. It's also loud and early models had some quality control issues.
The HP CP2025N Color LaserJet Printer
is a high end laser color printer and is great at printing color and photos
very quickly, but black and white speed is not fantastic. It cannot print
directly from a camera and doesn't have wireless, but it is made
for an office environment where that is not commonly done, and is a recommended workhorse of a model.
It's about $500 range (Click Here for a Big Discount ) and if you need to print lots of color, for example print professional marketing materials in your office, this is a great choice!
We've looked at three HP printers we recommend. They do photos well, but the last two are not HP Photo Printers but instead small to medium office models that do photos well and much more. I've owned HP printers for literally over two decades and obviously like them.
